National University Gazipur has warned that colleges failing to meet the affiliation conditions set by the university will have their affiliation revoked, and that no objections will be accepted, the National University vice-chancellor Professor ASM Amanullah said in a statement.
Speaking at an exchange of views with principals and teachers from district colleges and members of their governing bodies at Habiganj Circuit House, Professor Amanullah underscored the urgency of strict compliance with regulatory requirements.
On Tuesday and Wednesday he visited eight colleges in Bahubal, Nabiganj and Baniachong upazilas of Habiganj district and held discussions with college principals and teachers about affiliation expectations and institutional performance.
Professor Dr Amanullah said that many teachers seek affiliation for subjects based on personal preference without considering the future prospects of students or the needs of employers, institutions and industries, a practice he described as undesirable.
Highlighting a growing shortage of skilled manpower in professional disciplines such as BBA and CSE needed for industry and the Fourth Industrial Revolution, he noted that comparatively fewer colleges are seeking affiliation for these subjects and urged institutions to apply for new courses based on future demand.
Expressing concern over governance, Professor Amanullah said that many college governing bodies do not hold regular meetings, which prevents problems faced by teachers and students from being identified and resolved in a timely manner and allows issues to worsen.
He added that without regular governing body meetings it is difficult to implement improvements in facilities and benefits for teachers and students, resulting in deprivation and growing frustration.
Professor Amanullah said the National University will support colleges in implementing initiatives that improve the quality of higher education, promote institutional development and advance the welfare of teachers and students.
