US President Donald Trump announced Sunday that member states of his “Board of Peace” have pledged more than $5 billion (€4.2 billion) for humanitarian and reconstruction efforts in Gaza, along with thousands of personnel for an UN-authorised stabilisation force.
Posting on his Truth Social platform, Trump said the commitments will be formally unveiled when the board convenes in Washington on Thursday, an event expected to draw delegations from over 20 countries, including heads of state.
According to estimates from the United Nations, World Bank and European Union, rebuilding Gaza after more than two years of war could cost around $70 billion. The US-brokered ceasefire of 10 October calls for an international armed force to provide security and oversee Hamas’s disarmament, though few nations have shown willingness to participate.
Trump wrote that board members had agreed to contribute thousands of personnel to the stabilisation and policing mission in Gaza, describing the body as “the most consequential international organisation in history.” He did not specify which countries would send forces.
Indonesia’s military, however, confirmed Sunday that up to 8,000 troops could be ready by late June for a peace and humanitarian mission marking the first concrete commitment to the proposed force.
Trump also pressed Hamas to honor its pledge of full disarmament under the postwar plan. “Very importantly, Hamas must uphold its commitment to full and immediate demilitarisation,” he wrote.
The second phase of the US-mediated ceasefire agreement stipulates that Israeli forces will gradually withdraw from Gaza while Hamas disarms, with an international stabilisation force deployed to guarantee security. Hamas has suggested it might hand over weapons to a future Palestinian authority but has repeatedly insisted that disarmament remains a red line.
Both sides continue to accuse each other of violating the truce. Gaza’s Health Ministry reports that Israeli forces have killed more than 590 Palestinians since the ceasefire began, while Israel says four of its soldiers have been killed by Palestinian militants during the same period.
