A businessman was shot dead by unidentified assailants near Afil Gate under Khan Jahan Ali Police Station in Khulna city on Thursday afternoon.
The victim was identified as Sheikh Sohel (45), a resident of Sheikhpara area. The incident took place at a garage named Bismillah Motors around 3:10 pm.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Howlader Sanwar Hossain Masum of Khan Jahan Ali Police Station said that the attackers fired several rounds of bullets at Sohel, ensuring his death before fleeing the scene. A team of forensic experts from the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) visited the spot and collected evidence. Police are working to identify and arrest those involved in the killing, he added.
According to police sources, Sohel was accused in three cases, including two murders.
Local residents said Sohel went to Bismillah Motors to repair his motorcycle. While he was sitting there, the assailants opened fire on him indiscriminately. He collapsed on the spot after being hit by several bullets and died on the spot.
