The admission test for the first year of the undergraduate (honors) programme for the 2025-26 academic year at the University of Chittagong (CU) is set to begin on Friday. This year’s admission test will commence with the test for the “A” unit, which falls under the science faculty.
Candidates will enter the examination centres at 10:30am on Friday, with the exam itself running for an hour from 11:30am to 12:30pm.
CU authorities stated that this year, a total of 233,327 prospective students will participate in the admission test for 3,597 general seats across four units and three sub-units. Additionally, 568 seats have been allocated to adhere to quotas. This year, there will be no “dependent quota” for the children of teachers, officers, and employees.
A message on the admission-related website stated: “The seat arrangement for the ‘A’ unit admission test has been published. Information about separate centers for the Chittagong, Dhaka, and Rajshahi regions can be found on the website,’ with instructions to scan a QR code on the admit card to view the seat arrangement.
This year, the admission tests for all units will carry a total of 100 marks, and they will all be multiple choice. For each incorrect answer, 0.25 marks will be deducted. Except for the D-1 sub-unit, the minimum passing mark for all unit exams will be 40. The minimum passing mark for the D-1 sub-unit exam will be 35.
Under the A unit, there are are four departments: The Faculty of Science, the Faculty of Biological Sciences, the Faculty of Engineering, and the Faculty of Marine Sciences and Fisheries. Combined, these four departments have a total of 1,093 general seats.
With 87,694 registered to sit for the exam, the A unit has the highest number of applications vying for a spot.
The ‘B’ unit, under the Arts and Humanities Faculty, has a total of 690 seats. 69,287 students have applied for this unit.
On the other hand, the C unit, under the Business Administration Faculty, has six departments. It has 510 general seats. A total of 16,925 students have applied for this unit.
The ‘D’ unit contains nine departments from the Faculty of Social Sciences, the Law department from the Law Faculty, the Education and Research Institute, and two departments from the Biological Sciences Faculty. It has a total of 849 seats. 51,506 applications have been submitted for this unit.
Additionally, the D-1 sub-unit, comprising the Physical Education and Sports Science department under the Education Faculty, has 40 seats. 1,421 students have applied for this.
The B-1 sub-unit, comprising the Drama, Music, and Fine Arts departments, has 135 seats. 1,645 students have applied here while the B-2 sub-unit, comprising the Arabic, Islamic Studies, and Pali departments, has 280 seats. 4,849 students have applied for this sub-unit.
The D unit exam will be held on 3 January, the C unit on 9 January, and the B unit on 10 January. Meanwhile, the D-1 sub-unit exam will be on 5 January, the B-1 sub-unit on 7 January, and the B-2 sub-unit on 8 January.
In addition to the Chittagong University campus, the admission exam will be held simultaneously at two other public universities outside Chittagong: At the University of Dhaka and the University of Rajshahi.
