Students of Dhaka College and Ideal College clashed again on Thursday around 11:30am, reigniting tensions between the two institutions.
The fight broke out among higher secondary students in the Science Lab area, with repeated chases and scuffles spreading across the premises.
The unrest quickly spilled into the surrounding neighbourhood, prompting temporary closure of major roads as commuters were stranded.
Eyewitnesses said a verbal dispute escalated into a full-scale confrontation, which eventually extended to Science Lab and New Market areas.
Police intervened to restore order, but the agitated students threw bricks and stones at officers. To disperse the crowd, police fired two rounds of tear gas inside the Dhaka College campus.
The exact cause of Thursday’s clash remains unclear.
This is not the first time students of the two colleges have fought.
On 9 November last year, they signed a peace pact to curb violence and foster fraternity. However, less than a month later, on 9 December, another clash broke out, showing tensions remain unresolved.
Authorities have urged heightened vigilance to prevent further incidents and ensure public safety in the area.
