The Dhaka University (DU) authorities have declared three days of official mourning, from Tuesday to Thursday, to pay the highest respect to former prime minister and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia following her passing.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the university administration announced the suspension of all classes and examinations for the duration of the mourning period. As a mark of profound respect, the university flag has been hoisted at half-mast atop all key administrative buildings and residential halls.
All academic activities, including scheduled mid-term and final examinations, have been postponed. The administration noted that further programs will be formulated in alignment with the national mourning schedule announced by the state.
Beyond the immediate mourning, the university plans to organize academic seminars and other commemorative events focusing on the colorful life and political legacy of the three-time prime minister.
Special religious observances commenced on Tuesday across the campus, as well as, in all residential hall and hostel mosques, seeking eternal peace for the departed soul. Special prayer sessions have also been arranged at other religious places of worship within the university premises.
To facilitate the participation of teachers, students, officers, and employees in the Namaz-e-Janaza of Khaleda Zia at Manik Mia Avenue on Wednesday, the university administration has arranged for a fleet of special buses.
