The Vice-Chancellor of the Dhaka University Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan has announced his resignation just one day before the 13th National Parliamentary Elections.
Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan made the announcement during a press conference held on Tuesday afternoon at the Professor Abdul Matin Chowdhury Virtual Classroom, adjacent to the Vice-Chancellor’s office.
He said he has not yet submitted his formal resignation letter.
“I am stepping down so that the elected political government can reorganise the administration as they see fit,” he told reporters.
The DU VC also said he would remain in office for a few more days and would extend full cooperation to the newly elected government once it takes charge.
Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan was appointed vice-chancellor on 27 August, 2024, following the resignation of Professor Maksud Kamal on 10 August.
The appointment was made through a notification signed by Md Shahinur Islam, deputy secretary of the Ministry of Education’s Secondary and Higher Education Division, and was approved by the President and Chancellor under Article 11(2) of the Dhaka University Order, 1973.
The announcement has come at a critical time as the country prepares for the national polls.
