Bangladesh’s accounting and finance research community was in focus on Monday evening as the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh (ICMAB) honoured 14 papers addressing governance, transparency and management challenges at the ICMAB Research Excellence Award 2025.
The highest recognition, the Award of Excellence carrying prize money of Tk1,00,000, was jointly awarded to Anup Kumar Saha and Imran Khan for their work in accounting and finance.
The Award of Distinction, worth Tk75,000, went to Md Mamunur Rashid, Dewan Mahboob Hossain and Md Saiful Alam for studies examining financial reporting practices, governance frameworks and management-related issues.
Sohel Mehedi, Shamsun Nahar and Dayana Jalaludin received the Award of Merit, carrying Tk50,000, for a paper focusing on emerging themes in accounting, finance and organisational management.
Five other researchers were given Awards of Appreciation, each carrying prize money of Tk20,000, recognising contributions across related areas.
The award ceremony took place on Monday evening at the Padma Hall of Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in Dhaka, bringing together academics, policymakers and professionals from across the country.
BRAC Chairperson and Senior Trustee Hossain Zillur Rahman attended the event as the chief guest, while Financial Reporting Council Chairman Md Sajjad Hossain Bhuiyan, National University Vice Chancellor A S M Amanullah and North South University Vice Chancellor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury joined as special guests.
The programme also featured a keynote presentation titled “Accounting and Finance Research in Emerging Markets: Trends, Gaps, and Future Research Directions” by RMIT University Associate Professor Tarek Rana, which highlighted shifting topic priorities and unresolved challenges in emerging economies.
ICMAB President Mahtab Uddin Ahmed said strong research underpins evidence-based policy, professional excellence and sustainable economic development.
Chief guest Hossain Zillur Rahman said quality research in accounting and finance is critical to strengthening governance, transparency and accountability, adding that institutions such as ICMAB play a key role in connecting academic work with policy and practice.
The event concluded with the distribution of awards, followed by a photo session and dinner, reinforcing ICMAB’s emphasis on research-led professional advancement in Bangladesh.
