International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT), the country’s first non-government university, will step into its 35th year of academic excellence, marking more than three decades of pioneering contributions to private higher education in Bangladesh. The university is set to celebrate its 35th anniversary on Friday.
Over the years, IUBAT has evolved not only as an educational institution but also as a role model for quality, accessibility, and innovation in higher education, according to a press release.
IUBAT was established in 1991 by renowned educationist Professor Dr M Alimullah Miyan, former director of the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) at the University of Dhaka.
The university was founded with the vision of making international-standard higher education accessible to students from all segments of society and producing one professional graduate from each village of Bangladesh to contribute to national development. Significant progress has been made over the years in realising this vision.
On the occasion of the anniversary, IUBAT BoT Chairman Zuber Alim and Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Abdur Rab have conveyed greetings and congratulations to students, faculty members, officers, staff, alumni, and well-wishers.
Located in Uttara, Dhaka, IUBAT’s campus spans nearly 6.5 acres and features open spaces and modern infrastructure designed to provide a student-friendly learning environment that supports both academic excellence and personal growth.
As the first private university in the country, IUBAT introduced BBA and Hotel Management programmes and pioneered private-sector education in agriculture, nursing, and mechanical engineering.
These initiatives expanded the scope of higher education and contributed to producing skilled professionals to meet the country’s growing demands across various sectors.
At present, the university operates six faculties comprising 14 academic departments, with thousands of students from Bangladesh and abroad enrolled in its programmes. Through modern curricula, experienced faculty members, and a strong emphasis on practical and industry-oriented learning, IUBAT graduates have been serving in national and international organisations for more than three decades.
In research and global rankings, IUBAT has maintained a consistent position. In 2025, the university ranked fifth among private universities in Bangladesh in terms of research output. Its inclusion in international rankings such as QS and Times Higher Education (THE) further reflects its contribution to the higher education sector.
IUBAT has also demonstrated a commitment to social responsibility by offering scholarships of up to 100 percent based on SSC, HSC, or equivalent examination results to ensure that meritorious students are not deprived of higher education due to financial constraints. Free transportation facilities are also provided to students.
As it marks 35 years of excellence, IUBAT continues to uphold its commitment to quality education and social responsibility, with aspirations to further strengthen its role in developing a skilled, ethical, and globally competitive generation for Bangladesh.
