Bangladesh Television is turning the spotlight on original band music with a year-end special that reunites lyricist Shahid Mahmud Jangi and composer Foad Nasser Babu, two of the most influential names in the country’s band scene.
The special programme, titled ‘Band Utshob 2025’, features 10 newly recorded songs performed by leading Bangladeshi bands including Feedback, Souls, Renaissance, Dalchhut, Shironamhin, Nirjhor, TaruN, Parthibo, Pentagon and Nova. The two-part show will be aired on December 30 and 31 at 10:00 pm.
The first episode will showcase performances by Nirjhor, Dalchhut, TaruN, Renaissance and Shironamhin, while the second will feature Parthibo, Pentagon, Feedback, Nova and Souls. Each episode will also include conversations with band members alongside Jangi and Babu, offering insights into the creative process behind the songs.
Produced by Golam Morshed, with a script by Ahmed Tepantor and art direction by Sharmin Nigar, the programme was filmed on BTV’s in-house set and will be hosted by Ferdous Bappi.
Jangi described the project as a first in Bangladesh’s band music history, noting that 10 bands recorded 10 original songs for a single television programme, all written and composed by the same creative duo. Babu said composing distinctive tracks for so many bands within a short period was a rare challenge, adding that the response of listeners would ultimately define the success of the initiative.
Souls frontman Partha Barua said the band joined the project without hesitation, recalling BTV’s long-standing role in supporting Bangladeshi bands and expressing hope that similar initiatives would continue in the future.
