
Maritime University successfully conducted its undergraduate admission tests for the 2025–26 academic session on 30 and 31 January, with thousands of applicants competing for a small number of places in the country’s specialised maritime institution.
Students sat exams in two shifts each day under the supervision of the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Rear Admiral Khandakar Akhter Hossain NUP ndc psc PhD, who visited multiple centres to oversee the process .
A total of 23,133 candidates applied for 200 seats across five honours programmes offered by four faculties, yielding an average of 116 applicants per available place. To improve access, the tests were held concurrently in Dhaka, Chattogram, Khulna, Rajshahi and Rangpur, with administrative and security arrangements put in place to ensure smooth proceedings.
The university, one of Bangladesh’s public higher education institutions dedicated to maritime studies, attracts applicants from across the country to its competitive undergraduate programmes .
The Vice-Chancellor’s presence during the examinations underscored the significance of the entry tests in maintaining academic standards and managing demand that far outstrips available capacity. The international-standard leadership of Rear Admiral Dr Hossain, who took up the post of Vice-Chancellor in 2025, signals the university’s ongoing efforts to bolster its academic profile .
