The recruitment exam for assistant teachers at government primary schools has been postponed by one week as part of the three-day state mourning declared due to the death of the country’s former prime minister, Khaleda Zia.
This exam, originally scheduled for 2 January, is now tentatively scheduled to be held on 9 January.
Director General of the Directorate of Primary Education, Abu Noor Mohammad Shamsuzzaman, has confirmed this information to TIMES of Bangladesh.
He said, “The exam on Friday has been postponed due to the state mourning. The following Friday has been kept as the tentative date for holding the exam. Now, after discussion with the District Administrators, the exam time will be formally announced.”
Sources from the Directorate of Primary Education state that this time, a total of Tk10.80 lakh job seekers have applied for 14,385 vacant posts in two phases. Accordingly, on average, 75 job seekers will participate in the exam for each post.
Meanwhile, a workshop by a consultant committee for the documentation preparation, supervision, and guidance of the Fifth Primary Education Development Program (PEDP-5) was supposed to be held at the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education.
However, due to the state mourning over Khaleda Zia’s death, several people opposed organising the workshop, the meeting was later held at the residence of the Adviser of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, Bidhan Ranjan Roy Poddar.
Several officials present at the meeting on this matter informed that everyone refrained from any elaborate arrangements due to mourning. However, the meeting was held as part of the ministry’s regular activities, subject to the permission of the cabinet division.
