Russell Brand has reignited controversy by mocking his ex-wife Katy Perry’s relationship with former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, branding him a “globalist stooge” while speaking at a Turning Point USA event last week.
At the event, Brand referred to Perry while addressing the audience and acknowledged that her mother was present. He said he still had affection for the singer but took aim at her choice of partner, telling the crowd that while he had been “fine” with actor Orlando Bloom, Trudeau was a step too far. “Don’t put me in a category with that guy,” Brand said, drawing laughter and reaction online.
Perry and Trudeau’s relationship first surfaced earlier this year, with photographs later emerging of the pair together on a yacht. They subsequently made their first public appearance as a couple in Paris, followed by joint appearances at diplomatic and social events.
Brand and Perry were married from 2010 to 2012, with Brand filing for divorce. His remarks come as he awaits trial in the UK, where he has pleaded not guilty to multiple charges of rape and sexual assault relating to allegations from four women. The trial is scheduled to begin in June 2026, and Brand remains on conditional bail.
