Like the rest of the country, Bandar is experiencing a severe cold wave. As freezing weather makes life extremely difficult for low-income people, social worker Shantana Akhter Shanta has come forward with warmth and compassion. On Saturday (January 3), she personally distributed blankets among poor and cold-stricken men and women in the area.
Shantana Akhter Shanta has long been working for the rights and welfare of neglected and underprivileged women in the community. Once again, her initiative brought relief and smiles to many suffering from the cold. Local residents said that she not only helps during winter but also stands by poor people throughout the year whenever they are in need.
Those present during the blanket distribution included Md. Nasir Uddin – Prominent social worker, businessman, and Shanta’s father , Mitu Morshed – Renowned artist, Narayanganj Shilpakala Academy , Firoz Khan – Senior journalist , Palash Mahbub – Reporter

Several respected local figures and residents were also present and expressed their support for the humanitarian effort.
Speakers at the event said, “Alongside government initiatives, when conscious and kind-hearted people step forward like this during extreme cold, the suffering of helpless people is greatly reduced. Shantana Akhter Shanta’s initiative is truly praiseworthy.” They also urged other well-off members of society to come forward and help from their own positions.
Sharing her feelings, Shantana Akhter Shanta said, “My small effort is driven by the hope that no one should suffer in this bone-chilling cold. Standing beside people in need is my main purpose, and it gives me true peace.”
Local residents believe that such humanitarian initiatives during this harsh cold wave have set a bright example of compassion and humanity in Bandar.
