The Language Club of the Department of English at The People’s University of Bangladesh (PUB) launched an intensive, completely free-of-cost “12-Day Workshop on Academic Writing” on Wednesday.
Designed specifically for undergraduate students, this skill-development initiative aims to enhance core competencies in paragraph architecture, analytical essay writing, and international citation standards.
The formal inaugural ceremony was commenced at 11:30am with the national anthem at the IQAC Conference Hall of the university.
Farzana Neherin Dipte, assistant professor of the Department of English, delivered the formal welcome speech, greeting the guests and motivating the student participants.

Renowned academic and literary scholar Ahmed Reza from the Department of English at Jahangirnagar University was scheduled as the inaugural speaker.

Though he could not attend the programme in person due to unavoidable circumstances, he sent his written speech, which was read out to the audience by Pratap Datta, chairman of the Department of English.
In his written address, Reza highly praised the initiative, noting, “Not many English departments in different universities, both state-run and private owned, take this kind of initiative.”
He emphasised that mastering structural writing remains absolutely crucial for students to succeed in higher education and global research.
The programme was attended by the university’s senior administration.
The Vice-Chancellor (acting) AKM Mahbubuzzaman of PUB joined as the chief guest, while the Advisor (Planning & Development) Md Abubakar Siddique, Registrar (acting) Shah Nurunnobi, and the Proctor Md Dipul Hossain were present as special guests.
The faculty members of the Department of English, alongside a large cohort of enthusiastic participants, attended the launching ceremony.
The chairperson of the Department of English presented a detailed 12-day structural roadmap.
The curriculum features a rigorous model consisting of a 20-minute theoretical lecture followed by a 35-minute hands-on, practical worksheet activity every day.
Following the Eid-ul-Adha vacation, the subsequent technical sessions will resume, offering students deep-dive training on sentence mechanics, the PEEL paragraph method, thesis statement formulations, and both MLA and APA citation formats over two weeks.
Md Salah Uddin Al Faruque, the president of the Language Club, concluded the inaugural session with a vote of thanks, followed by light refreshments for the guests and participants.
