Six Bangladeshi nationals were killed and another injured in a fire that broke out at a shop in South Africa’s Eastern Cape province early Tuesday.
The incident occurred at around 3:00am local time in Queenstown, where the victims were reportedly asleep inside the shop when the fire broke out. All six died at the scene, while the injured person was admitted to a hospital.
The deceased were residents of Kukerchar and Char Alirtek areas under Alirtek Union, and Ramnagar area under Baktabali Union in Narayanganj Sadar upazila.
Their identities were not immediately disclosed.
Narayanganj Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) SM Foyez Uddin said, “We have heard that a number of people have died. However, we have not yet received any official information. We are looking into the matter.”
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
