All consular services and visa issuance at the Bangladesh High Commission in Delhi, India, have been temporarily suspended due to unforeseen circumstances. These services will remain closed until further notice.
Multiple senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the matter on Monday (22 December). It has been learned that on Saturday night, a group of 20–25 members of the extremist organization Akhanda Hindu Rashtra Sena staged a protest in front of the High Commission. They remained there for about 20 minutes, chanted slogans against Bangladesh, and issued threats against High Commissioner M. Riaz Hamidullah.
Regarding the incident, Foreign Affairs Adviser Md. Touhid Hossain said on Sunday that the High Commission is located in a highly secure area within the diplomatic zone. How extremists managed to enter the area is abnormal and unexpected. However, he added that following the incident, the High Commissioner’s family is feeling at risk and under threat.
