The 18th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the India-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IBCCI) was held successfully in Dhaka recently.
The meeting was presided over by M Shayeq Chowdhury, Vice-President (Rusting Presidential Affairs), who also conducted the proceedings.
In his address to the members, he emphasised the importance of strengthening bilateral trade and economic cooperation between India and Bangladesh.
The AGM was attended by a distinguished gathering, including Honorary Secretary General Amit Kumar, former president and director Mohammad Ali, Honorary Joint Secretary General Abdul Wahed, and members of the outgoing executive committee.
Newly elected President Mashiur Rahman and members of the Executive Committee for the 2025-2027 term were also present. In addition, members of the current and outgoing boards of directors and a large number of general members attended the meeting.
All statutory and routine agenda items were presented, discussed and duly approved at the meeting, reflecting members’ active, spontaneous and enthusiastic participation.
The chamber’s activities, achievements and financial reports were reviewed in detail, demonstrating IBCCI’s commitment to transparency and collective responsibility.
Director Mohammad Ali placed a proposal before the AGM to reconfirm the newly constituted Advisory Council, which had been approved at the IBCCI board meeting held on 17 December, 2025.
The members of the Advisory Council are: Abdul Matlub Ahmad – former president; Mohammad Ali – former president; Taqeen Ahmed – former president Dewan Sultan Ahmed – former vice-president; M Shayeq Chowdhury – former vice-president; Abhijit Das – former vice-president; Sanjay Bose – former vice-president Amit Kumar – former honorary secretary general
Md Abdul Wahed – former honorary joint secretary general. It was noted that the inclusion of former presidents and other eminent personalities, who hold respected and influential positions in society, would significantly enhance the institutional strength, policy direction and overall capacity of the chamber.
After detailed discussion, the proposal was formally approved unanimously. The motion was proposed by Subrata Dutta Gupta and seconded by Director Mohammad Selim Hossain.
The AGM concluded on an optimistic and forward-looking note, with members expressing confidence that the newly elected executive committee would play an active role in further expanding trade, investment and business cooperation between India and Bangladesh.
The meeting reaffirmed IBCCI’s continued commitment to building strong economic ties, mutual cooperation and sustainable partnerships between the two friendly neighbouring countries.
