The LPG Traders Association Limited has announced that the sale of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders will be temporarily suspended starting Thursday. According to the association, the supply and sale of LPG cylinders across the country will remain halted until their demands are met.
Earlier, the association had issued a 24-hour ultimatum with six demands, including an increase in commission and the withdrawal of fines.
On Wednesday evening (January 7), the association issued a notice to distributors and retailers across the country. The notice stated that the withdrawal of LPG from the plants of all companies would also remain suspended.
Selim Khan, president of the LPG Traders Association, said that the sale of LPG cylinders would be suspended from Thursday morning. A meeting with the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. tomorrow (Thursday). If their demands are accepted at the meeting, LPG cylinder sales will resume; otherwise, the suspension will continue.
The organization issued this notice to distributors and retailers nationwide on Wednesday evening. Earlier that morning, at a press conference in front of the National Press Club in the capital, they issued a 24-hour ultimatum with six demands, including an increase in commission and the withdrawal of fines.
The leaders also warned that if the demands were not met, LPG supply and marketing would be suspended indefinitely starting Thursday. Later in the evening, the announcement of the shutdown program was made.
