Nuzhat Anwar joined as managing director of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) on Sunday, bringing more than two decades of experience in financial markets, banking and development finance.
The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) approved her appointment at the country’s premier bourse on 18 December.
Before taking up her current charge, she worked at the International Finance Corporation, the private sector arm of the World Bank Group, where she held senior leadership roles across Africa and South Asia.
Her roles included resident representative for Liberia and Sierra Leone, senior country officer for Bangladesh, Bhutan and Nepal, and acting cluster manager during the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent transition period.
She also served as an International Finance Corporation Country Officer in Botswana and Namibia, where she played a role in establishing the institution’s presence in Gaborone and advancing a sustainable investment programme, including its first investment in Botswana.
Anwar has expertise in capital management, treasury and liquidity, transaction services, portfolio optimisation and market advocacy. Earlier in her career, she spent 16 years at Citibank Bangladesh and Standard Chartered Bank Bangladesh in senior management roles.
She holds a master’s degree in commerce (Finance) from the University of Dhaka.
