Muktir Opare (Beyond Freedom) is a short film exploring urban pressure, social inequality and the human longing for freedom. The story unfolds through Ayesha, a young girl, revealing the silent struggles and fragile dreams of a family trapped in a concrete city.
When his employer’s business changes hands overnight, a fourth-grade employee takes shelter in a small garage room. The room lies beneath a large apartment building in an affluent neighbourhood.
He moves to the city with his wife and daughter, hoping to offer his child a better environment to grow up. Although allowed to live there rent-free, the high cost of city life soon weighs heavily on the family.
Surrounded by wealth, they struggle to belong and slowly succumb to the pressures of their new reality. Little Ayesha remains unaware of these harsh truths. She searches for freedom in the sky, in the flight of kites and the wings of birds. On paper, she sketches her dream of a safe and happy home with her parents.
Fearful of the unfamiliar surroundings, her mother keeps her indoors. The rooftop becomes Ayesha’s only world, yet she cannot connect with other children there. One day, the barriers of inequality suddenly collapse, leaving her gazing at the sky in quiet wonder.
