BNP Senior Joint General Secretary Ruhul Kabir Rizvi stated on Sunday that the primary political focus of BNP is to stand by the underprivileged.
He emphasised that party activists have consistently supported helpless and oppressed people during disasters, severe crises, and even amidst “fascist misrule.”
He made these remarks while addressing a blanket distribution program for the needy in the Mohakhali TV Gate area of the capital. The event was organized by the Dhaka City North unit of the Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB).
Rizvi noted that even when the former Sheikh Hasina government created a hostile environment to eliminate the opposition – to the point where police obstructed social and welfare activities—the BNP continued its service.
He highlighted that throughout the past 15–16 years of “unjust rule,” the party never ceased its efforts to aid those affected by the pandemic, floods, or harsh winters. Despite the fall of the Hasina government, he asserted that the nationalist forces remain committed to their social responsibilities.
Praising the role of DAB, Rizvi mentioned that the professional organization of doctors has consistently conducted social welfare programs, including free medical camps, voluntary blood donations, and winter clothing distribution.
He stressed that the objective of the BNP and its affiliated professional bodies is not to engage in hollow rhetoric, character assassination, or viral smear campaigns, but to serve the people.
“You will see on social media who is making videos go viral and spreading malice; the public understands this,” he said, adding that the BNP and its wings maintain constant contact with the people in their times of joy and sorrow.
He further noted that professional organizations following the ideals of Shaheed president Ziaur Rahman, Begum Khaleda Zia, and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman are fulfilling their duties from their respective positions, which he described as a key characteristic of the nationalist force.
Regarding the election campaign, Rizvi stated that BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman is participating while strictly adhering to the Election Commission’s instructions and code of conduct.
He described Tarique as a highly popular leader who was forced to leave the country due to the attacks of the previous “fascist and Awami misrule”. Although his voice was legally suppressed to prevent his messages from reaching the public, he remained connected with the people of Bangladesh through technology.
Rizvi highlighted that Tarique Rahman’s electoral speeches focus on practical commitments, such as the introduction of Family Cards, Farmers Cards, and the planting of 25 crore trees. He emphasized that Rahman does not resort to attacking others or spreading malice against other political parties.
The event was attended by DAB Dhaka City North President Professor Sarker Mahbub Shamim, Central Swechchasebak Dal Vice President Dr Zahidul Kabir, Central Chhatra Dal Vice President Dr Awal, and DAB leaders Dr Galib, Dr Akash, Dr Labid, and Dr Afif, among others.
