
International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) held its 9th Convocation Ceremony at the Bangladesh–China Friendship Conference Center (BCFCC) in Agargaon, Dhaka.
The convocation marked a significant milestone for undergraduate and postgraduate students, who were formally awarded their degrees across a wide range of disciplines, according to a press release.
Among the graduates, Shahrin Khondkar from the Agriculture programme, Lutfunnaher Kamini from English, and Maharunnesa Mitu from Public Health received the prestigious Miyan Gold Medals for outstanding academic performance. Shahrin Khondkar emerged as the top gold medalist and was honoured with the Alimullah Miyan Award.
Degrees were awarded across a wide range of disciplines, including MBA, MPH, BBA, Agriculture, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Economics, Tourism and Hospitality Management, Nursing and English programmes.
The convocation was presided over by Mohammad Touhid Hossain, Adviser for Foreign Affairs, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, representing the President of Bangladesh and Chancellor of the University.
In his presidential address, Hossain underscored the importance of quality higher education, international cooperation, and the ethical and professional responsibilities of graduates.
He also commended IUBAT for its contributions to research, global rankings, sustainable education initiatives, and its innovative Knowledge-Based Area Development (KBAD) program.
The Convocation Speaker was Professor Jeff Keshen, President of the University of Regina, Canada, who highlighted the critical role of higher education, research excellence, and international academic collaboration in addressing global challenges.
The ceremony commenced with a welcome address by Professor Abdur Rab, Vice-Chancellor of IUBAT. Professor Selina Nargis, Treasurer of IUBAT, delivered the vote of thanks, expressing sincere appreciation to the dignitaries, faculty members, graduates, guardians, and guests for their participation and support.
Established in 1991, IUBAT is the pioneering private university in Bangladesh, founded by the late Professor M Alimullah Miyan, former Director of the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), University of Dhaka, and a distinguished academician.
Over the years, IUBAT has earned national and international recognition for its commitment to academic excellence and research, achieving notable global rankings among private universities in Bangladesh.
