Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) organised a rally, human chain, and seminar on Sunday to mark World Hijab Day.
The rally started at the VC Chattar at noon and concluded at the foot of the Anti-Terrorism Raju Memorial Sculpture, where participants formed a human chain.
Subsequently, a seminar titled ‘Hijab: Symbol of Pride and Freedom’ was held at the Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) auditorium.
Prominent attendees included Umme Salma, DUCSU common room, reading room, and cafeteria affairs secretary; executive members Shakibunnahar Tamanna and Umma Uswatun Rafia; and various leaders from the female hall unions.
During the human chain, Umme Salma highlighted that World Hijab Day is celebrated in around 140 countries. She remarked that it is “extremely unfortunate” that numerous women in rural continue to face harassment and discrimination for wearing the hijab.
Tamanna stated that women who wear the hijab are often held back in various fields. “Hijab is our right. No one should attempt to take this right away from us,” she asserted.
She further called for an end to all forms of discrimination in Bangladesh, demanding that adequate opportunities be provided for hijab-wearing women in education, employment, and all sectors of society.
