
Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon on Tuesday announced plans to make physical, mental health, and arts education mandatory for all students from Grade 4 onwards.
Speaking at an exchange of views meeting with officials from the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) at its office this afternoon, the minister noted that the prime minister has accorded the highest priority to the education sector.
Emphasising the need to bring textbooks up-to-date, the Minister stressed that curriculum refinement is a necessity.
He highlighted the importance of the physical and mental well-being of young students, stating that assessment examinations will be conducted for these newly mandatory subjects to ensure holistic development.
Milon further asserted that high-level experts would be recruited to develop the curriculum and revise textbooks. He maintained that the selection of these experts and the subsequent reforms would be carried out without any political considerations.
The programme was presided over by NCTB Chairman (additional charge) Md Mahbubul Haque Patwary. Other attendees included the Minister’s Private Secretary Professor Dr Khan Moinuddin Al Mahmud Sohel and senior officials from various wings of the NCTB.
