Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt have reportedly earned $12.5 million each for ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’, with additional box office bonuses pushing potential earnings above $20 million per actor.
Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt have reportedly earned substantial salaries for reprising their roles in The Devil Wears Prada 2, according to industry sources cited in reports on the film’s global box office performance.
The sequel to the 2006 hit has so far grossed around $300 million worldwide, with sources indicating that Streep, who returns as Miranda Priestly, secured a base fee of $12.5 million for the David Frankel-directed film from 20th Century Studios.
Despite her character’s on-screen authority over Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt, Streep is said to have ensured equal pay for her co-stars. The three actors reportedly agreed a “favoured nations” arrangement, meaning Hathaway and Blunt also received $12.5 million each for reprising their roles as Andrea Sachs and Emily Charlton.
Sources further stated that in addition to their upfront salaries, all three actors are entitled to box office bonuses tied to performance milestones. These incentives are expected to significantly increase total earnings, with reports suggesting each star could ultimately earn more than $20 million if the film continues its strong commercial run.
Representatives for 20th Century Studios and CAA, which represents the actors, declined to comment, while a representative for Streep also did not respond to requests for comment. Representatives for Hathaway and Blunt did not immediately respond.
The original ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ was released in 2006 with a reported budget of $35 million and went on to gross $326 million globally. The sequel, with a reported budget of $100 million, is said to have allocated a significant portion to cast salaries.
Screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna, who worked on both films, previously noted that Streep had expressed openness to sequel ideas in recent years.
Industry reports also suggest that Streep’s salary for ‘Don’t Look Up’ remains her highest acting fee to date, structured differently under Netflix’s compensation model.
The film is currently in its second week of wide release and is expected to compete at the box office with ‘Mortal Kombat II’, with projections estimating up to $42 million for its second weekend.
