The Directorate of Primary Education (DPE) has announced a zero-tolerance policy against government primary school teachers who post derogatory remarks, propaganda, or offensive content regarding the government, its institutions, and official decisions on social media.
In a directive issued by the DPE’s administration wing on Thursday, authorities ordered the immediate identification of teachers tarnishing the government’s image and the initiation of urgent departmental action against them.
The instruction emphasised that all government employees are mandated to follow the ‘Social Media Usage Guidelines for Government Institutions-2019 (Revised Edition)’ formulated by the Cabinet Division.
According to the Directorate, several primary school teachers have recently been observed making posts and comments on social media that contravene these guidelines. The authorities believe such activities are damaging the reputation of the primary education system, government departments, and the state.
The directive further clarified that making or sharing derogatory remarks, misinformation, or offensive posts against the government and its decisions constitutes a violation of the Government Servants’ Conduct Rules. Such actions will be treated as “misconduct” under the ‘Government Employees (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 2018’.

In line with instructions from Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, monitoring committees at divisional, district, and upazila levels have been ordered to increase their vigilance. These committees are now required to hold at least one meeting every month to review teachers’ social media activities and take necessary measures.
DPE Director (Administration) Mahbuba Irene signed the letter, which has been dispatched to all divisional deputy directors, district primary education officers, PTI superintendents, and upazila or thana primary education officers across the country.
Field-level officials have been requested to submit detailed reports to the Directorate regarding the departmental actions taken against teachers involved in such propaganda or offensive social media usage.
Authorities believe this directive will play a vital role in ensuring responsible digital behaviour among government employees and protecting the reputation of public institutions. The move re-emphasises the importance of strictly adhering to existing conduct rules and social media policies for all civil servants.
