Anya Taylor-Joy is set to return to television after a four-year break with the Apple TV+ crime thriller Lucky, which premieres on 15 July. The series also marks her return to Apple TV+ following her appearance in The Gorge alongside Miles Teller.
According to Collider, Lucky comes from veteran crime writer Jonathan Tropper, best known for creating Banshee and Warrior. Tropper previously worked on Apple TV+’s See and recently created Your Friends & Neighbors, starring Jon Hamm. He shares showrunner duties with Cassie Pappas, who also serves as an executive producer on Silo.
Taylor-Joy plays the title character, a con artist forced to flee after a heist goes disastrously wrong. Her character’s small stature and seemingly innocent appearance become key elements of the story as she tries to evade danger. After her husband and fellow con artist disappears following a major score, Lucky finds herself hunted by both her ruthless boss and the FBI.
The series also stars Annette Bening as Lucky’s boss, Cole Hauser, Kelly Reilly, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, Timothy Olyphant as Lucky’s father, and Drew Starkey as her husband.
Lucky will debut with a two-episode premiere on 15 July. Apple TV+ will then release one new episode each week, with the season finale scheduled for 19 August.
The series arrives during a busy period for Apple TV+, which has already launched several high-profile titles this summer, including Star City, Cape Fear, the second season of Sugar, the return of Silo, and the fifth season of Trying.
Upcoming releases on the platform also include Ted Lasso season four on 5 August, Women in Blue season two on 12 August, and Dark Matter season two on 28 August.
