BanglaFact, the fact-checking and media research team of the Press Institute Bangladesh (PIB), has identified an attempt to spread misinformation by falsely attributing a statement about electricity bills to the Prime Minister.
According to BanglaFact, a photo card has been circulating on Facebook with the quote: “You want gas, you want electricity, and at the same time you want lower bills. That is not possible. No government can make that happen!” The quote is falsely attributed to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
After verification, BanglaFact found that the claim is false. The Prime Minister never made such a statement. Instead, the image originated from a satire page called “Gupto TV”, and its content was misleadingly presented on social media as a genuine remark.
