Narayanganj City BNP organized a protest rally and demonstration against offensive and derogatory remarks made by NCP leader Nasiruddin Patwari and other leaders regarding Tarique Rahman, Prime Minister of the Government of Bangladesh and Chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), as well as other politicians.
On Saturday afternoon (August 1), a protest rally was held in front of the Bangladesh Hosiery Association in the city’s Missionpara area. Following the rally, a massive protest march went around the Chasara Roundabout and Narayanganj Press Club area, ending at Rail Gate No. 2.
During the rally, Nasiruddin Patwari was declared unwanted in Narayanganj, and leaders warned that any of his future visits to the district would be resisted.
Addressing the rally as the main speaker, Adv. Abu Al Yousuf Khan Tipu, Member Secretary of Narayanganj City BNP, said that before speaking about Tarique Rahman—the symbol of Bangladesh’s hopes and aspirations—one should know their own history. With over two decades of political experience, he is now leading the country and holds a special place in the hearts of millions.
The Narayanganj City BNP Member Secretary added that claiming sole credit for the July uprising amounts to distorting history. The fall of Sheikh Hasina was brought about through the prolonged movement, struggle, and sacrifices of Chhatra Dal, BNP, the 20-party alliance, and the general public.
Targeting the leaders of the NCP party, he warned them to stop extortion and political drama and stay within their limits. He added that if offensive comments about Tarique Rahman do not stop, the general public will give a fitting response.
Before the protest march, BNP leaders at the rally remarked that nothing good could be expected from leaders of an alleged commercial party like NCP. They claimed that since August 5, NCP leaders have resorted to threatening and misleading the public to make money.
Directing their message at Nasiruddin Patwari, speakers noted that BNP spent 17 years protesting on the streets against the Sheikh Hasina-led government. They stated that falsehoods and insulting comments cannot damage the image of Tarique Rahman or the BNP, and reaffirmed that Nasiruddin Patwari would face strong resistance if he enters Narayanganj in the future.
The rally and protest march were attended by Narayanganj City BNP Joint Conveners Fateh Md. Reza Ripon and Anwar Hossain Anu, members Awlad Hossain and Rafiq, Sadar Thana BNP President Masud Rana, along with a large number of leaders and activists from the city BNP and its affiliate organizations.
