A two-day CSE Carnival 2026 titled “Innovate Today, Lead Tomorrow” commenced at the Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (DUET), Gazipur on Friday.
According to the press notification, the event was organised by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) and was inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mohammad Iqbal, who attended as the chief guest.
Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Arefin Kowser was present as the special guest.
In his inaugural address, the VC said as the world stands on the brink of the Fifth Industrial Revolution, the young generation must lead the future of Bangladesh by harnessing emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), Data Science, Cyber Security, Virtual Reality (VR), and Robotics.
He emphasised that the carnival serves as a platform for talent, innovation, and collaboration, which will strengthen the foundations of research, startups, and industry-academia coordination.
Dr Iqbal further remarked that the university aims to produce students who are not merely job seekers but entrepreneurs, researchers, and global technology leaders.
Following the opening ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor experienced a mobile science exhibition from the National Museum of Science and Technology using 4D glasses and explored a virtual 3D environment via a head-mounted device.
Speaking as a special guest, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr Md Arefin Kowser, said such events provide students with the opportunity to showcase their technical capabilities on national and international stages.
He urged participants to prepare themselves for leading the nation through new research and innovation.
The event is being held as part of Innovators Bangladesh’s National Science and Technology Carnival 2026, with support from the DUET Computer Society and WhiteBoard Initiatives.
More than 1,200 students from over 100 universities across the country are participating. The first day featured the Inter-University Programming Contest (IUPC), AI Hackathon, ICT Olympiad, and Project Showcasing Competition.
The final rounds, networking sessions, and the prize-giving ceremony are scheduled for Saturday.
The inaugural session was chaired by Professor Dr Mumtaz Begum, Head of the CSE Department.
Other attendees included Professor Dr Ruma, Dean of the Faculty of Electrical and Electronic Engineering; Professor Dr Moha Abu Taieb, Registrar (Additional Charge); Professor Dr Emran Hossain, Treasurer of the CSE Carnival; and Dr Umme Fawzia Rahim, Organising Secretary and Assistant Professor of the CSE Department.
The closing ceremony on Saturday will be attended by Md Nurul Karim Bhuiyan, Deputy Commissioner of Gazipur; Mohammad Tawrit, Chief Executive Officer of BdREN; and Professor Dr Mohammad Kaykobad of BRAC University, who is also the President of the Bangladesh Mathematical Olympiad Committee.
