The government is planning to complete the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations by 31 December every year to save students’ valuable time, Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon said on Wednesday.
Addressing an exchange meeting at the Ministry of Education conference room as the chief guest, the Minister outlined plans for the smooth conduct of the 2026 HSC and equivalent examinations.
Milon explained that under the current system, students appear for their SSC and HSC exams the year after completing their respective tenth and twelfth-grade classes.
This results in a loss of approximately two years from their academic lives, which he described as a significant loss for both the students and the nation.
The Minister underscored that there is no alternative to a cheating-free environment for the development of merit. He noted that the government aims to maintain the tradition of preventing unfair means through the active participation of teachers.
To ensure a fair examination system, the authorities will hold consultations with centre secretaries and local administrations in divisional cities.

During the meeting, it was decided that the 2026 HSC examinations will be conducted using uniform question papers across all education boards. Participants also discussed the mandatory installation of CC cameras in every examination hall to ensure transparency.
Furthermore, the government has decided to form a high-level committee to assess the feasibility and necessity of reducing the number of subjects in future SSC and HSC examinations.
The Minister also called for documents to investigate a delay in taking administrative action against a centre secretary regarding irregularities during the 2023 SSC exams at Khagakharibari Dwimukhi High School in Dimla, Nilphamari.
He expressed the government’s determination to eliminate any future irregularities and directed all education board chairmen to identify the physical conditions and potential problems of upcoming SSC exam centres.
The meeting was chaired by Abdul Khalek, secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Division. Muhammad Rafiqul Islam, secretary of the Technical and Madrasah Education Division, senior ministry officials, and chairmen of all education boards were also in attendance.
