Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Sunday called on students to prepare themselves for building a prosperous and developed Bangladesh, describing the younger generation as the country’s future leaders.
He made the remarks while hosting a luncheon for students, teachers and visitors from various educational institutions who attended proceedings of Parliament, according to the Prime Minister’s Deputy Press Secretary Jahidul Islam Rony.
A total of 29 law students from the Canadian University of Bangladesh, 21 underprivileged students and teachers from Surabhi, a partner organisation of the Campaign for Popular Education (CAMPE), and 16 students and teachers from the Tejgaon College Debating Society took part in the luncheon held at the VIP cafeteria of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
During the event, Tarique interacted with the participants, enquired about their studies and exchanged views on various issues.
He stressed that alongside academic education, students should also focus on sports and work towards becoming skilled, responsible and capable citizens.
The students and teachers expressed gratitude to the prime minister for arranging the luncheon and providing them the opportunity to experience Parliament closely.
As part of the visit to the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, the students were briefed on the activities of the Parliament Secretariat, visited the Parliament Library, took part in a photo session at the North Plaza, and observed parliamentary proceedings from the visitors’ gallery.
