
Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (DUET) Gazipur has held discussions on signing a Memorandum of Understanding with Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia UKM, aiming to expand academic and research collaboration.
The online meeting took place on Monday 16 February at DUET’s conference room, attended by DUET Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mohammad Zainal Abedin and senior officials from both institutions.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Mohammad Zainal Abedin said the proposed partnership would facilitate academic knowledge exchange, joint research and global exposure for students, helping to modernise education and make it more career-oriented and internationally competitive.
He said the collaboration would go beyond exchange programmes among students, teachers and researchers and could mark the start of broader cooperation in intellect, creativity and technological excellence between Bangladesh and Malaysia. He added that the MoU could contribute to building an innovative and sustainable Bangladesh.
DUET Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Arefin Kawser said the joint initiative would strengthen higher education, research and industry-academia collaboration at the university and support the development of skilled human resources.
Under the proposed agreement, the two universities plan to undertake joint academic activities and coordinated research, introduce teacher, student and researcher exchange programmes, share knowledge and experience, and organise joint training sessions, seminars, symposiums and conferences.
Others present at the meeting included Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Professor Dr Mohammad Zakir Hossain, Head of the Department of Materials and Metallurgical Engineering Professor Dr Hasan Mohammad Mostafa Afroz, Head of the Department of Food Engineering Professor Dr Mohammad Wasim Dewan, Director Student Welfare Professor Dr Utpal Kumar Das, Director Research and Extension Professor Dr Md Anwarul Abedin and Registrar Additional Charge Professor Dr Moha Abu Tayeb, along with other faculty members and officials.
Associate Professor Dr Mohammad Rashed Iqbal Faruk of UKM’s Space Science Centre participated in the discussion on behalf of the Malaysian university.
UKM, also known as the National University of Malaysia, is a leading public research university in Malaysia with strengths in medicine and health sciences, engineering and the built environment, economics and management, and IT and science.
