Warning signs are appearing again on university campuses, National Parliament Whip Rakibul Islam Bakul told parliament on Monday, cautioning that efforts to secretly create mobs and chaos will not bring anything good for ordinary students.
“If efforts begin to create chaos on campus by secretly creating mobs, this will never be good for ordinary students. It will not bring anything good,” the whip said while taking part in the discussion on the motion of thanks on the President’s speech in the National Parliament session, with Speaker Hafiz Uddin presiding.
Bakul said students have wasted a lot of time and no longer want campuses to be disturbed. “They want campuses to remain peaceful. They no longer want to see any covert politics. They want everything to be open, for politics to be practised transparently.”
He suggested that if any political discussion is needed, a framework can be developed based on everyone’s opinions, adding that parliament could also discuss what type of politics should be allowed on campuses.
“We want campuses to remain peaceful. We do not want to destroy the campus that we regained through our blood,” the whip said. “We do not want to return to the fascist era by creating mobs.”
Bakul called for the student community of the future to be built on the basis of merit, and for the country’s leadership to be developed on that foundation.
