The Department of Botany at Chittagong University (CU) organised a reception for new students, a farewell ceremony, and a general study tour last Thursday on the CU Botanical Garden premises in a festive atmosphere.
CU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Mohammad Al-Forkan attended the programme as the chief guest. Special guests included CU Pro-VC (Academic) Prof Mohammad Shamim Uddin Khan, Pro-VC (Administration) Prof Md Kamal Uddin, and Faculty of Biological Sciences Dean Prof Md Golam Kibria, said a press release.
The event was chaired by Department of Botany Chairman Prof Kazi Mohammad Mezbaul Alam. Addressing the event, the vice-chancellor extended greetings to all.
He said he was a former student of the department and had started his career as a teacher there. He recalled the department’s glorious history and highlighted the contributions of its past teachers.
New students were welcomed with flowers, and outgoing students were presented with crests.
Gifts were also given to three retiring staff members of the department.
