Gazipur Agricultural University (GAU) has received the draft constitution of its proposed Alumni Association, marking a step toward creating a structured global alumni network for the institution.
The document was formally handed over Tuesday to Gazipur Agricultural University Vice-Chancellor GKM Mustafizur Rahman at a brief ceremony held in a university meeting room in Gazipur.
The event was chaired by the vice-chancellor.
Gazipur Agricultural University Alumni Association Convening Committee Convener Nazmul Islam Sarker joined the ceremony virtually.
Nazmul Islam Sarker currently serves as Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate of Chandpur and is a graduate from the first batch of the university’s Faculty of Agriculture.
Several senior university officials and alumni representatives attended the event.
Those present included Gazipur Agricultural University Treasurer Safiul Islam Afrad, Registrar Abdullah Mridha, Director Research Moshiul Islam, Director Student Welfare Mohammad Sharif Raihan, Proctor Mohammad Saiful Alam and Convening Committee Member Secretary Humayun Kabir.
The university formed a search committee on 8 December 2024 to establish a formal alumni platform.
Following the committee’s recommendations, 31-member alumni convening committee was formed on 12 December 2024.
An eight-member subcommittee later prepared the draft constitution after consultations and review.
During the programme, the vice-chancellor also launched an online alumni registration form designed to create a database of graduates working in Bangladesh and abroad.
The initiative aims to connect alumni globally and strengthen their engagement with the university.
Gazipur Agricultural University Vice-Chancellor GKM Mustafizur Rahman said alumni represent the strength and pride of any university.
He expressed hope that a formal alumni association would strengthen relationships among graduates and allow them to contribute to the university’s education, research and development activities.
Rahman also highlighted recent achievements by Gazipur Agricultural University in international rankings, saying the institution has secured leading national positions while gaining broader global recognition.
