All government primary schools across the country will remain closed from 23 May to 6 June, according to a notification issued by the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education on Friday night.
The ministry said regular classes and academic activities would resume on 7 June after the 15-day closure.
Earlier, the Directorate of Primary Education had announced that primary schools would remain open on Saturday following a government decision to keep public and private offices operational on 23 and 24 May ahead of the Eid-ul-Adha holidays, scheduled between 25 and 31 May.
The announcement triggered protests from teachers, who demanded that schools remain closed during the period.

A group of 10 teachers submitted a written appeal to the Director General of the Directorate of Primary Education, requesting a revision of the decision.

The teachers mentioned that secondary and higher secondary educational institutions had already been scheduled to remain closed from 22 May to 6 June for Eid holidays.
They urged the authorities to bring the primary school holiday schedule in line with other educational institutions on humanitarian grounds.
Following the demonstrations and appeals, the ministry revised its earlier position and confirmed the nationwide closure of government primary schools from May 23.
