Professor Mohammad Alam Chowdhury of the Political Science Department has been appointed as the new provost of AF Rahman Hall at Chittagong University (CU).
The appointment was confirmed on Wednesday by the university’s acting registrar, Professor Mohammad Saiful Islam.
He said Prof Mohammad Alam Chowdhury was appointed following the resignation of former provost Prof Mohammad Taslim Uddin.
He added that the appointment process was completed on Wednesday afternoon, he added.
Speaking on his new role, Mohammad Alam said he assumed office immediately after receiving the appointment letter in the morning. He pledged to ensure a conducive residential environment in the hall and work for the welfare of students, including addressing their problems and needs.
Earlier on Tuesday, outgoing provost Prof Mohammad Taslim Uddin submitted his resignation to the acting registrar. In his resignation letter, he cited family responsibilities and health issues.
However, reports also suggested that he stepped down amid pressure from multiple sides.
