
A high-level World Bank delegation met with Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon in Dhaka on Tuesday to discuss strengthening collaboration in Bangladesh’s education sector.
Jean Pesme, division director for Bangladesh and Bhutan at the World Bank, led the delegation during the courtesy call at the Ministry of Education.
During the meeting, the education minister emphasised the government’s commitment to enhancing education from primary to tertiary levels, noting that improving quality and accelerating development projects remain top priorities. He stressed the importance of evaluating ongoing initiatives to identify challenges and ensure better outcomes.
Participants acknowledged that despite progress in enrollment, significant challenges persist in basic literacy, teacher training, and student learning achievement.
The minister highlighted opportunities for collaboration in skills development, digital learning systems, teacher training, and strengthening links between education and employment.
Both sides reviewed ongoing World Bank-supported initiatives and discussed potential future cooperation, including the development of multimedia and smart classrooms, expansion of blended learning systems, capacity building, and enhanced research support for universities.
The education minister expressed appreciation for the World Bank’s continued partnership and reiterated the government’s determination to reform and modernise the education system to meet national development goals.
Senior officials from the Ministry of Education and representatives of the World Bank attended the meeting.
