The Secondary School Certificate (SSC), Dakhil, and SSC (Vocational) examinations are set to begin across the country today.
More than 18.57 lakh students have registered to participate in the examinations this year.
According to the schedule, exams will start daily at 10am, running from 21 April to 20 May. Following the written exams, practical exams will take place from 7 June to 14 June.
The Ministry of Education will monitor all exam centres this year via CCTV cameras. Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milan confirmed that every centre has been brought under CCTV surveillance.
To facilitate this, the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Dhaka, has instructed all centres to maintain a constant internet connection for their CCTV systems.
In a letter sent to relevant officials, the board noted that monitoring from the ministry’s control room was being hindered by a lack of connectivity at some locations. Consequently, they have been directed to ensure uninterrupted internet access immediately.
According to the ministry, the number of male and female students in the examinations this year is nearly equal. Across all education boards, there are 930,305 male students and 927,039 female students.
A total of 1,418,398 students are participating under the nine general education boards. There are 304,286 candidates under the Madrasa Education Board and 134,660 under the Technical Education Board.
This year, a total of 1,857,344 students are participating, compared to 1,928,970 examinees last year. This represents a decrease of 71,626 candidates.
A total of 3,885 examination centres have been designated nationwide this year.
Students from 30,666 educational institutions will participate in these exams. The highest number of centres is in the Dhaka Board with 510, while the lowest is in Mymensingh with 188.
On the other hand, examinations will be held in 742 centres under the Madrasa Board and 653 centres under the Technical Education Board.
Although the examinations are scheduled to begin at 10am, candidates have been instructed to enter the centres by 8:30am to mitigate traffic congestion and public suffering. However, they will enter their respective examination rooms 30 minutes before the start of the exam.
