STAFF REPORTER: Narayanganj City Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) hosted a discussion meeting and prayer service on Saturday to commemorate the 82nd birth anniversary of former Prime Minister and late BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.
The event took place after Asr prayers at the Bangladesh Hosiery Community Center in the city’s Missionpara area.
Presiding over the event, Narayanganj City BNP Convener Adv. Md. Sakhawat Hossain Khan addressed the gathering, alleging that Khaleda Zia faced severe political persecution.
“Tarique Rahman and Begum Khaleda Zia were offered a luxurious royal life abroad. However, our leader rejected it with disdain, asserting that Bangladesh was her only home,” Sakhawat said. He added that she was later falsely convicted in a fabricated case, with her sentence unlawfully extended to 10 years on appeal, ultimately leaving her to suffer in prison without rule of law.
Sakhawat also warned against political conspiracies targeting the current administration. “A clandestine organization is plotting to destabilize the government led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, which enjoys public support. Any reckless attempt against the five-year democratic mandate will not be tolerated. Every party leader and worker must remain uncompromising in the field against all plots,” he stated.
Special prayers were offered seeking eternal peace for the departed souls of BNP founder and former President Ziaur Rahman, former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, and Arafat Rahman Koko. Supplications were also made for the good health and longevity of BNP Chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
The program was moderated by City BNP Member Secretary Adv. Abu Al Yousuf Khan Tipu. Senior leaders in attendance included Senior Joint Convener Adv. Zakir Hossain, Joint Conveners Monir Hossain Khan and Fateh Md. Reza Ripon, along with key local figures from the BNP, its upazila units, and associate affiliate bodies.
