A discussion meeting and prayer service were organized by local leader Zakir Khan on Saturday to mark the 82nd birth anniversary of the late former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.
The event was held after Maghrib prayers at the Deobhog DSS Club grounds in the city.
Speaking at the program, Zakir Khan paid tribute to the late leader, describing her as an uncompromising advocate for democracy.
“Late former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia was an uncompromising leader who fought until her last days for the democratic rights of the people. She never compromised with injustice,” Zakir said. He recalled her rejection of exile offers, quoting her as saying, “I have no home outside this country; the people of this land are my family.” He added that she never prioritized her own interests and prayed that Almighty Allah grant her the highest place in Jannah.
Following the discussion, a special prayer (dua) was conducted by Maulana Mohammad Salahuddin Ahmed, seeking eternal peace for Khaleda Zia’s departed soul. Food (tabarruk) was later distributed among the attendees.
Moderated by Parvez Mollick, the event was attended by former Narayanganj City BNP Finance Secretary Sujon Mahmud, Central Volunteer Wing Member Arshad, Nashik Ward 14 BNP President Didar Khondokar, former City Volunteer Wing General Secretary Ziaur Rahman Zia, City Farmers’ Wing Organizational Secretary Al-Amin, along with other leaders and activists from the BNP and its associate organizations.
