A mobile library has been established in the VC Chattar area of Dhaka University (DU) with the aim of bringing the culture of reading books to the doorsteps of the general public.
Arif Faisal, a first-year student of the Department of Communication Disorders at DU, took the initiative to set up the library.
Specially constructed using wood and glass, the library was launched to provide a reading environment within the busy city.
Faisal explained that in the modern era of technology, people are gradually moving away from books, and the opportunities for reading are decreasing in urban settings. “I wanted to take books to people’s hands so that anyone can enjoy the taste of literature even while on the move,” he said.
Faisal further remarked that there is no alternative to books for establishing connections between people and for intellectual development. He envisions the library as a social movement to encourage students and the younger generation to return to reading.
The mobile library features portraits of the Rebel Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam and Dhaka University student Shahriar Alam Samya. It also displays a quote by Sharif Osman Hadi: “Humans die, but their ideals live forever”.
