Students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) have intensified their protests, demanding the resignation of the proctor for his alleged failure to ensure campus safety following an attempted rape of a student.
On Thursday, protesters staged an innovative demonstration by painting graffiti on the walls of the Proctor’s Office, situated in the old Registrar building.
The students wrote “GET OUT” in large white letters on the main entrance and superimposed the words “failed” and “incapable” onto the office signboard. As a result, the phrase “Failed Proctor Office” is now clearly visible from a distance.
Sajib Ahmed Jenis, a student of the 51st batch from the Philosophy Department, stated that since the current Proctor took office, numerous allegations of harassment and violence have surfaced, yet most have seen no effective justice.

He asserted that the proctor’s office has completely failed to guarantee the security of students.

Echoing these sentiments, Lamisha Zaman, a student of the 53rd batch from the History Department, noted that recent incidents – including attempted rape and murder – have created widespread anxiety.
She described the administration’s role as unsatisfactory and maintained that the Proctor should no longer hold his position due to these security failures.
The current wave of unrest was triggered on Monday night when an outsider allegedly attempted to rape a student of the 51st batch on campus. In protest, thousands of students marched in a torch procession on Wednesday night under the banner of “general students”.
The protesters later besieged the Registrar Building and held a meeting with the university administration.
Following lengthy discussions, the students presented a six-point demand list and issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the administration before temporarily suspending their programme.
Documented demands include exemplary punishment for those involved in the attempted rape and the immediate implementation of measures to ensure campus security.
